Open Studio Artist in Residence - Ralf Tekaat

Ralf Tekaat

28. Mai 2017

Ralf Tekaat (Bobingen, Bavaria,1970 – lives and works in Berlin) will present a series of new works made during his residence at Galleri Svalbard Kunstneropphold that lasted for one month in May 2017.

Tekaat`s artistic practice starts from the technical support of the drawing to develop through different media of expression. As he explains: “It is about drawing, about interventions on the paper and settings of wall and space. Openness and lightness of the shown things is important for me. In my drawings and storytelling installations I use stories and images out of the common memory, to create a controlled chain of associations. The installations are drawings in a bigger scale, too”.

The opportunity to watch live the natural shapes of the Icebergs and the Glaciers motivated his journey to the Svalbard. Then his research has moved further towards an existentialist analysis of the presence of human civilization in an uncontaminated environment and the perverted perception of this context.

Along with designs and installation, Tekaat has created a Travel Diary through a blog that is a constituent part of his investigation during his residence.
